Quick answer

What is home healthcare?

Home healthcare is medical and personal care delivered at the patient's residence instead of in a hospital or clinic. In practice it covers eight distinct things: nursing procedures, attendant support with daily living, elderly care, injections and drips, doctor visits, physiotherapy, full ICU setup for critical patients, and equipment on rent. Which of those a household needs is usually the first question, not something they arrive knowing.

How to choose a home healthcare agency in Mumbai

Written so you can use it on anybody, us included. Most agencies in this market look identical from the outside and every one of them says "best" and "trusted". These seven questions separate them, because the answers are either specific or evasive.

1

What qualification does the person actually coming hold?

Not the agency's average. The individual. A nurse should be GNM or BSc. An attendant is a trained caregiver and not a nurse, and any agency blurring those two is telling you something.

2

Are they police-verified, and do I get the papers?

"All our staff are verified" is a slogan. A copy of the report in your hand is a fact, and your Mumbai society will want it at the gate anyway.

3

What happens if they do not turn up?

The real test of an agency against hiring privately. Ask who you ring at 7am, how fast a replacement comes, and whether that person arrives briefed or cold.

4

Do I get a written duty list?

Without one, every week brings an argument about whether cooking for the whole family was included. With one, nobody is asked to work outside their scope.

5

Is the quote the whole quote?

Ask what is not included. Consumables, travel, night differentials and festival rates are the usual places a number grows after you have committed.

6

Who do I escalate to?

If the only number you have is the caregiver's own, there is no agency, just an introduction service. Ask for the coordinator who owns the case.

7

Will they tell me if I need less than I am asking for?

The one that matters most, and the one nobody asks. Plenty of families ring for a 24-hour nurse when a 12-hour attendant would do the job better and cost less. An agency that agrees to whatever you propose is selling, not assessing. We would rather place a smaller booking and keep you for two years.

Coming home from a Mumbai hospital

Most of what we do begins as a discharge. Patients come home to us from Lilavati, Kokilaben, Hinduja, Nanavati, Jaslok, Breach Candy, Bombay Hospital, Fortis Mulund, Global and a long list of smaller nursing homes across the suburbs.

Send the discharge summary while you are still at the hospital rather than after reaching home. It names the procedure, the medication and the follow-up the doctor expects, which is enough for us to say what level of care the case actually needs. Booking a day or two before the discharge also means the right person is assigned rather than whoever happens to be free that morning.

Hospital names describe where patients are discharged from. They do not imply any tie-up or affiliation.

Who we send to your home

Nurses
GNM or BSc Nursing with hospital experience, certificate verified before assignment. ICU-trained nurses for ventilator and critical cases.
Attendants and caretakers
Trained caregivers, taught safe lifting, hygiene, feeding and transfers. They are not nurses and we never describe them as nurses.
Doctors and physiotherapists
Qualified, with credentials verified before any visit is assigned.
Background screening
Police background reports on file, with copies given to you for your society office. All staff bonded and insured.
A coordinator on every case
So problems reach us rather than sitting with your family, and a replacement is briefed before arriving.

Home healthcare in Mumbai: common questions

What home healthcare services do you provide in Mumbai?

Eight in total. Home nursing care by GNM or BSc qualified nurses, patient care attendants for daily living support, elderly care combining either of those, injections and IV drips at home, doctor home visits, physiotherapy at home, full ICU setup at home for ventilator-dependent patients, and medical equipment on rent including hospital beds, oxygen concentrators and BiPAP machines. Each has its own page with the detail for Mumbai.

How do I know whether I need a nurse, an attendant or a doctor?

If a doctor has prescribed a procedure such as an injection, a drip, a dressing or catheter care, you need a nurse. If the difficulty is bathing, feeding, toileting, moving the patient or remembering medicines, you need an attendant. If nobody has examined the patient yet and you do not know what is wrong, you need a doctor visit first. Most households end up with an attendant for the daily work and a nurse visiting when a procedure is due. Describe the situation and we will tell you which applies before you book anything.

What should I ask a home healthcare agency in Mumbai before booking?

Seven things. What qualification the person actually coming holds, not the agency's average. Whether staff are police-verified and whether you get copies of the papers. What happens if the assigned person does not turn up. Whether you get a written duty list so nothing is assumed. Whether the quote covers everything before you commit. Whether there is a coordinator to escalate to rather than only the caregiver's own phone. And whether they will tell you if you need less than you are asking for. An agency that says yes to everything is not being kind to you.

Which areas of Mumbai do you cover?

The western line is our strongest coverage, where our office sits at Kandivali West: Malad, Borivali, Kandivali, Goregaon, Andheri, Jogeshwari, Vile Parle, Juhu, Santacruz, Khar, Bandra, Dahisar, Mira Road and Bhayandar. We also cover Thane, Navi Mumbai including Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar, Airoli and Panvel, plus Kalyan and Dombivli. Central, eastern and south Mumbai are covered too, including Dadar, Chembur, Ghatkopar, Mulund, Powai, Worli, Lower Parel and Colaba.

Can you arrange care straight from a hospital discharge?

Yes, and it is how most cases begin. Patients come home to us from Lilavati, Kokilaben, Hinduja, Nanavati, Jaslok, Breach Candy, Bombay Hospital, Fortis Mulund, Global and many smaller nursing homes across the suburbs. Share the discharge summary before you leave the ward rather than after reaching home. Booking a day or two ahead of the discharge gives us room to match the right person instead of sending whoever is free that morning.

Are your staff police-verified?

Yes. Police background reports are held on file for nurses and attendants, and copies are given to you so your housing society can register the visit at the gate. Staff are bonded and insured. Most Mumbai societies want an ID and photograph before letting a caregiver through, so having the papers in advance saves an argument on the first morning.

Do you serve Thane and Navi Mumbai as well?

Yes. Thane West, Thane East and Ghodbunder Road, and across Navi Mumbai including Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Kharghar, Airoli and Panvel, plus Kalyan and Dombivli. Availability is strongest on the western line because that is where our office is, so tell us your locality when you call and you will be told plainly how quickly somebody can reach you.

Is there a charge for the assessment?

No. Describing the case and being told what level of care it needs costs nothing, and that includes being told you need less than you thought. Where a case genuinely belongs in a hospital rather than at home, we will say so instead of taking the booking.
